Turkana: Residence of Turkana County Threatens to Demonstrate over Poor Road Infrastrucre
Turkana County residents are threatening to hold a mega demonstration citing failure by the National Government to work on the road connecting Kitale- Lodwar-Lokichoggio to Nakoda, at the border between Kenya and South Sudan.
In a letter, circulated on Social Media seen by Northrift News, the residents claim that despite several pledges by the National Government, that the highway would be worked on, nothing has been done so far.
“This project was fully funded by the World Bank and other International donors, yet the National Government is delaying its commencement, and its construction has also already been officially launched,”read part of the letter copied to all the county leaders.
The residents are seeking assurances from government that, the road stretch, will be worked on commencing 30th May or else all operations along the road will be paralyzed on 1st and 2nd of June.
They also pointed out that they will boycott all the National Government functions including the Madaraka day celebrations set for 1st of June this year, and further threatened to also paralyze operations at Lodwar Airstrip.
According to the residents, the National Government has failed to repair the 600 Kilometers stretch of road, which has turned into a death trap and added that there are no clear signs that the road stretch will be worked on despite assurances by the State.
