Turkana South MP Francis Ewaton committed suicide
Ewaton reportedly shot dead his wife Lydia Ewoton before turning the gun on himself. Their bodies that had bullet wounds were discovered in the house on Tuesday morning by neighbours.
Confirming the incident Rift Valley Provincial Police Officer John Mbijjiwe said they had found two blood stained ropes in the house an indication that the former MP had first attempted to hang himself before shooting himself.
Ewoton was the Member of Parliament for Turkana South between 1992-2007 after which he lost his seat to Josphat Nanok
Police are yet to establish the cause of the killings but neigbours say it could have been as a result of a domestic brawl.
69-year-old Ewoton had hoped to recapture the seat in the coming elections. His wife Lydia Ewoton was aged 47 years.
