TURKANA:WASH PROGRAM TRAINING AT NAOROS
The following methods of fecal matter disposal within the community were discussed e.g open dedication- this was where fecal matter was placed on the open ground around the settlement areas, the facilitators used an illustration drawn on a chart placed on the chalkboard. Some questions were asked e.g. what can you see from the chart. Different answers were given e.g. I can see a child vomiting, water source, a person being sick, dog, somebody carrying/fetching water from the well or river etc. After this, problems encountered due to open defecation were discussed i.e water being contaminated and not safe for drinking. Infection by different diseases e.g typhoid, cholera, bilharzias etc. Types of fecal matter disposal were discussed as;- use of toilets and dig or burying feces on the ground completely. to see more click the below
